This unit does not work with older TV’s-only 1080 p. The menus worked well with the hard drive, and picture and sound were good. Downside is that you must buy a wifi adapter. It has no place for an internal hard drive. I traded this unit in for the Patriot Box Office which has more features that I wanted.

Hi koshik, I responded to this question under your comment for the Patriot media player. Here is the excerpt:

“I do know that the WD Live is compatible with VOB files, but I don’t know how the player could distinguish from a VOB file from RealDVD or from a different program. If you already have the VOB files, you could try running through a different program like DVD shrink to make them compatible with other players than just RealDVD.”

I know that you can convert the VOB files with a different program like the one I use, DVD Shrink. Here is the link to their download site: DVD Shrink. It is free and I used it to convert some of my old VOB files to new VOB Files. Hope you get it worked out.

I purchsed WD Live from local FRYS store.
It does not play REALDVD Version of VOB Files.
